FAQs
How will the PSAT be administered this year?
The PSAT will be digital this year, meaning you will take the test on your laptop. You will need to bring your computer to the Saturday PSAT testing day. This is not a virtual test. This will be an in person test on October 26, 2024
What is the PSAT?
Known as the Preliminary SAT, PAT is a preparatory version of the SAT exam. The test is given once a year. During your junior year, if you earn a high score on the PSAT, you could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship. PSATs can be taken by 9-11th graders only. 12th graders do not take the PSAT
Why take the PSAT?
Power Up Potential:
The PSAT/NMSQT® (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is given to 10th- or 11th-grade students. As part of the SAT® Suite of Assessments, it is designed to help prepare students for the SAT, college, and careers. Historically, students who took the PSAT/NMSQT scored higher on the SAT, on average, than those who didn’t take the test.
National Merit Scholarship Corporation
PSAT/NMSQT in 11th grade may meet requirements to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The scholarship partners also use the PSAT/NMSQT to find students qualified to apply for their programs. In addition, the BigFuture Scholarships program provides a simple path to college with the chance to earn$40,000 and $500 scholarships for each step taken. At least half of the scholarships – more than $1.5 million – will be awarded to students whose families earn less than $60,000 per year.
How do I prepare for the PSAT Test?
College Board has free tests for you to prepare https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/preparing
Please click here to see the Student Guide to the PSAT
How is the test structured?
https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/whats-on-the-test
What if I need accommodations for testing?
Please read the following information and return the attached form if you have not already requested accommodations from the College Board for your students 504 plan. Students with a documented disability who intend to take the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, ACT and/or AP tests may be eligible to receive accommodations. To receive accommodations on the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT and/or AP tests, you must apply for and receive College Board approval. To receive accommodations on the ACT, you must complete a separate form provided through ACT (www.actstudent.org).
Please remember that an approval process may take up to 7-8 weeks. Therefore request accommodations as soon as possible.
Students and parents must apply for these accommodations by following these steps:
You may request accommodations online by going to
https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/request-accommodations/request
Obtain a PARENT CONSENT FORM available online at https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/request-accommodations/request/forms for College Board testing.
Complete the consent form and bring it to Mr. Perry with an up-to-date, detailed letter from a medical doctor stating the medical reason for the request. This letter must be on the doctor’s official letterhead and signed by the doctor. A letter from a psychologist will not be accepted. Please note that this process may take a long time since Mr. Perry must assemble the necessary documentation.
You will be notified by the College Board or ACT if your student has been approved for accommodations, as well as which accommodations have been approved. Mr. Perry will be able to assist you in answering any questions and/or completing the appropriate forms. You may call him at 818-595-7562 or you may email him at s.perry@ecrchs.net
*Please understand that it is your responsibility to reach out to the college board or Mr. Perry to see if you qualify for any testing accommodations. Please sign and return the attached form to the Counseling Office #2, a copy will be provided upon return.
The following site provides more information for the upcoming PSAT/NMSQT.
Last day for accommodations requests for the October PSAT/SAT would be August 19, 2024.
**If you have already applied before as an El Camino Student, you do not need to resubmit a form unless you have had any changes to medical records or your 504 plans which may result in changes to the college board accommodations.

FAQ's
Can I opt out of filing the FAFSA or Dream Act?
AB 469 requires all students in the Class of 2025 to file a FAFSA or Dream Act or opt out. We encourage all student to file financial aid because you need it for the Promise Program (free two years free at community college) and many colleges will use the information from the FAFSA/Dream Act to provide any scholarship or institutional aid. Should you prefer to opt out, please see the form below and return it to Mr. Graham or Mrs. Yi or Mrs. Murcia in the College & Career Center. Or fill out the google opt out form
Mid-year reports: I'm getting messages that I have to send a mid-year report (7th semester transcripts). What do I do?
The college counselor will upload your mid year reports automatically through Naviance when the second semester class rank and GPA are available about the end of January. You will not have to send in a form. If you did not use these sites, please see your college counselor to make arrangements.
Final reports: Who sends the final transcript?
That is the student's responsibility to send their final transcript to their intended institution by making sure it's on Naviance and ordering it through the Transcript Office
I'm dropping a class but I already reported it to the colleges, what do I do? I failed a class, do I have to report it?
Colleges want to know the changes you have made after you submitted your applications, including information about a D or an F grade. You need to submit that information to the colleges, usually by email or mail. Each school may have different methods so check their website first and ask how they would like that information.
Who signs my Cal Grant form?
Your Cal Grant GPA has already been submitted electronically so you do not need to send in the form. All you have to do is file the FAFSA or the Dream Act. Make sure your address and identifying information at school is accurate with the information you put on your financial aid.

GPA CALCULATION
ECR GPA (Total GPA): This weighted GPA is important because it is used to establish class rank that is reported to private and some public out-of- state colleges.
- Basics:
- A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, Fail=0
- A=5, B=4, C=3, D=0 Fail=0 (AP classes only)
- What’s Included:
- All classes taken 9th, 10th, 11th, & first half of 12th grades.
- Weighting:
- Only AP classes; no honors courses
- Method of Computing:
- Compute the un-weighted GPA including all classes even those that have been repeated. For AP classes only, use A=5, B=4, C=3
UC/CSU GPA: This weighted GPA is used by UC and CSU to establish eligibility and admissions for UC and CSU schools
- Basics:
- A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, Fail=0 (regular classes)
- A=5, B=4, C=3, D=0, Fail=0 (UC approved Honors, AP, & college classes)
- What’s Included:
- Only academic (A-G) classes taken after the 9th grade-11th grades.
- Weighting:
- UC approved Honors, AP, and college level classes in grades 10 & 11 receive an extra point per semester
- Method of Computing:
- If a class has been repeated after a mark of “D” or Fail”, the second grade is used. Courses may be repeated only once. Students may earn up to eight semesters of honors/AP points. No more than four extra points (2 honors/AP classes) can be used in 10th grade.
What approved honors courses get an extra point on the UC/CSU GPA
The following courses receive an extra weighted point towards GPA as well as courses that are considered AP level:
- Honors U.S. History
- Honors American Lit. Comp.
- Honors Contemporary Comp.
- Honors Math Analysis
- Multi variable Calculus
- Honors Chemistry
- Honors Physics
- Honors Physiology
- Honors Jazz Band
- Honors Vocal Ensemble
- Please refer to the UC Articulation website to double check which courses can give you an extra point
Grade Point Average
-
The GPA calculation will include only those grades earned in the “A-G” subject courses taken during the 10th and 11th grades of high school. Grades earned for courses completed in 9th grade and 12th grade are not counted in the GPA.
-
Honor Points: both the UC and CSU will award honors points in calculating the GPA for up to eight semesters of UC approved honors level and AP courses taken in 10th and 11th grades. The University limits the amount of UC certified honors credit student may receive for work completed in 10th grade to no more than four semesters. And not all honors classes will receive the extra points. To see which Honors classes earn an extra GPA point, click here.
Info on Repeating Classes
UC/CSU GPA: If the same identical course (level and title of the course) is repeated, the higher grade will be calculated in the GPA. If the course is repeated but different levels such as Honors/AP is retaken at a regular level, you must include both grades in your GPA.
ECR GPA: The repeated grade does not replace the lower grade. Every class you take is calculated into your GPA. Making up a “C” grade in a class will not be posted on the ECR transcript.
Info on College Classes: College classes will be added to your high school transcript only if you need the credit to graduate from high school or the class fulfills a high school graduation requirement. You will not get an extra point on the ECR GPA. If the college classes do not go on your high school transcript, you can still report the classes on your application (to the UC/CSU schools)
ECRCHS Forms

- Plan high school courses and track grades using real-time, pre-populated coursework via CaliforniaColleges.edu’s Academic Planner.
- View their eligibility for the UC or CSU in an easy-to-interpret, color-coded grid.
- Launch and track the status of their applications to UCs, CSUs, and California Community Colleges.
- Launch and track the status of their financial aid applications.
- Migrate pre-verified “a-g” coursework and grades into their Cal State Apply applications.
California College Guidance Initiative and Annual Parent Notifications
The CCGI is written into California Education Code (EC) Section 60900.5 as an authorized provider of an institutional service to all California School Districts and as part of the state’s efforts to make college-going a more streamlined experience for students (EC Section 60900.5(a)). One service that the CCGI will provide is a set of college and career planning tools, including the CaliforniaColleges.edu tool, designed to help students plan for and apply to California public colleges and universities. The CCGI currently receives enrollment data for all public-school students enrolled in grades six through twelve from the California Department of Education (CDE). LEAs are required to annually notify parents and guardians of this data sharing.
The is a notification to parents and guardians of data-sharing with the CCGI, including the use of California Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) data as outlined in EC 60900.5, and the use of the CaliforniaColleges.edu tool. The data shared will be used to provide pupils and families with direct access to online tools and resources and will enable a pupil to transmit information shared with the CCGI to both of the following:
- Postsecondary educational institutions for purposes of admissions and academic placement.
- The Student Aid Commission for purposes of determining eligibility for, and increasing uptake of, student financial aid.

Personal Insight Questions
Essays, personal statements, and personal insight questions will help colleges become acquainted with you as a person and a student apart from grades, courses, test scores, and other objective data. You will also be able to demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and express yourself in a cohesive and meaningful essay. Think of your essays and responses as opportunities to share accomplishments, perspectives, talents, and experiences that are important to you. The University of California asks students to answer personal insight questions that are designed to get to know you better. Think of these questions as an interview with the admissions office. As an undergraduate applicant, the University of California wants you to be open and reflective and find your individual voice as you compose your answers.
You will have 8 questions to choose from and you must respond to 4 of the 8 questions:
- Each response is limited to 350 words.
- Which questions you choose to answer is entirely up to you. But you should select questions that are most relevant to your experience and that best reflect your individual circumstances.
- All questions are equal and all questions are given equal consideration in the application review process. There is no advantage or disadvantage to choosing certain questions over others.
- Your responses will be sent to all UC campuses selected on your application. Do not personalize your answers for any one UC campus.
- Write your responses in a Word document and cut and paste them into the UC application.
UC Appeal Process
Not all UC campuses will have an answer for your appeal before the May 1 SIR deadline, so be sure to file a SIR with a backup school in case the appeal does not go through. You will lose your $100 deposit if you are accepted on an appeal somewhere else.
You must present a new and compelling reason for the appeal.
The UC campus offers a set of instructions on how to submit an appeal.
You must follow the instructions. Most appeals due have a strict timeline to abide by.
- UC San Diego: Freshman applicants not offered admission; online appeal only;
- UC Irvine: Appeal to selection decision; postal mail only
- UC Riverside: How to appeal my decision; online appeal only through the portal
- UCLA: Appeals to admission decisions; online only
- UC Berkeley: log into myBerkeleyApplication for appeal instructions
- UC Davis: Non admitted Freshman Applicants; online only
- UC Santa Cruz: Appeal of Denial of Admission; online only DUE March 28
- UC Merced: Appeals process online
- UC Santa Barbara: Submitting appeals; via mail only
Eligibility Local Context (ELC) Info
The ELC program ensures that academically talented and deserving students from all over California have the opportunity to join us at UC. ELC status adds value to the application and is one of the 14 factors considered when applications are reviewed. Additionally, ELC students not admitted to any of their campus choices are offered a spot at a UC campus that has space, if minimum UC requirements are met. The top 9% of each graduating class will be designated as an ELC student.
INFORMATION ON BEING WAITLISTED
When are waitlist offers announced? When will students hear a decision?
Freshman applicants will receive waitlist offers by the end of March, with an opt-in deadline of April 15. Students will be notified of their final status by June 1. Transfer applicants will receive waitlist offers by the end of April, with an opt-in deadline of May 15. Students will be notified of their final status by July 1.
I have a student who was offered and accepted a space on a waitlist at one of the campuses. Can they do anything to increase their chances of selection? Are students ranked?
Whether or not a campus will offer admission to students on a waitlist depends on a number of factors, including the number of students initially offered admission who accept a space by May 1 (June 1 for transfers), and campus and department enrollment goals. There is nothing that a student should or can do other than opt-in to the waitlist by the stated deadline. Any additional information submitted that was not requested by the campus will not be considered. The process for selecting students from the waitlist varies at each campus. A campus might have enrollment goals for a particular major, leading to the admission of students who applied to that program, but not other. Or a campus might admit broadly.
Can a student accept multiple waitlist offers?
Yes.
Can students who have been admitted at one campus and waitlisted at another accept both offers?
Yes. In fact, we highly recommend students who have been admitted to either a UC campus or another college or university accept that offer since a waitlist offer is not a guarantee of admission later.
How many students are usually admitted from the waitlists?
The number of students who are ultimately admitted varies from year to year, campus to campus. There is no way to tell how many students, if any, will ultimately be offered admission for any particular year.
Can a student who was waitlisted appeal their admission decision? Can a student who was denied admission appeal to be on the waitlist?
No. Offers to be on the waitlist are not admissions decisions and cannot be appealed. Similarly, students who were denied admission can only appeal for reconsideration to be admitted to the campus, not to be placed on the waitlist.
If a student did not receive an offer of admission from any campus to which they applied, but was waitlisted by a campus, will they receive an offer from UC Merced?
Yes, provided that the student meets all of the criteria for either the statewide or local guarantee.
If students are admitted from the waitlist, will they receive a financial aid package? Will they still be guaranteed housing and orientation?
Most campuses will not have financial aid award packages available when a waitlist offer is made. However, financial aid awards will be made available in accordance with campus policies and procedures, provided the applicant has submitted the FAFSA by the application deadline. The Statement of Intent to Register for students admitted from a waitlist will be considered on time for purposes of housing and orientation, provided they are submitted by the deadline stated in the offer of admission.
If a student is admitted from a campus waitlist after submitting a statement of intent to register (SIR) and deposit to another campus, can the initial deposit be refunded or transferred?
No, the SIR deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.
SPRING SEMESTER SCHEDULE CHANGES OR REPORTING D AND F GRADES
For UC schools: If you added or dropped A-G or AP courses, or received any D or F grades in A-G or AP courses, you need to contact the individual campuses to submit the information for consideration. Below are the instructions for each UC campus:
- Berkeley – Berkeley will not accept post-submission updates. Any updates that are sent will not be considered in the application reading process.
- Davis – Freshman applicants should submit changes thru Davis Portal
- Irvine – Freshman applicants should submit changes thru Irvine Portal.
- Los Angeles – Some post-submission updates will be accepted. Visit the UCLA contact page for further details.
- Merced – Post-submission updates are only accepted if the student is admitted. They can click on the “myCourseUpdate” link in their connect portal
- Riverside – Freshman applicants should submit changes through their website.
- San Diego – San Diego will not accept post-submission updates. Any updates that are sent will not be considered in the application reading process.
- Santa Barbara – Santa Barbara will not accept post-submission updates. Any updates that are sent will not be considered in the application reading process.
- Santa Cruz – The update form will be available after December 15. Can be submitted through the UC Santa Cruz portal
You should do this soon. (updated 12/12/23)
If you applied to CSU schools or other colleges, you will need to do the same and notify each school you applied to if there were any changes in your reported schedule. You usually email the admission office for the school. If you decide to call, please document all calls.

FAQs
Does it help students to submit their applications early in November?
A: For UC’s purposes, it does not matter if the application is submitted earlier or later in the month. All on-time (submitted by Dec. 2) applications are reviewed in the same way.
Can students change information on the application once it’s been submitted?
A: Once the application has been submitted, only contact information and self-reported tests scores can be updated online. Please remind your students to carefully review the entire completed application before submission.
I dropped a class after the first semester. Do I need to let the UC’s know?
A: Yes, you should report it. See the above answer. Don’t stand the chance of not reporting it, because at the end of the year, you will HAVE to send an official transcript and they will verify what you reported. If it doesn’t match, you may run of the risk of getting your acceptance rescinded. Remember, it’s a provisional (conditional) acceptance.
Will the change in my senior year schedule affect the admission decision?
A: It’s hard to say because everyone is different and everything is examined case by case. It may matter to one UC but not another. Either way, you should report any changes like if you dropped a class.
When will I hear from the UC’s about their admission decisions?
A: You should hear about March
Do I need to take the SAT Subject tests for admissions?
A: They are not a required part of the admissions process. But there are some competitive majors that highly suggest that you take subject tests.
What if I took classes through OFL? How do I input those classes on my application?
A: The only classes you should be inputting on your UC and Cal state applications are A-G classes only. Be sure to type out the entire name, Opportunities For Learning. It does not matter which location you took the classes at. Usually your options are Baldwin Hills or Irwindale.

- Only send transcripts if you get a specific request to do so
- You can apply for a fee waiver within the application. You will know immediately when you submit if you qualified for four free applications.
Grades
The grades you earned in high school is the most important factor in CSU admission decisions. You high school GPA is calculated using your “a-g” grades in 10th and 11th grades only, a maximum of 8 honors points, no more than two in 10th grades.
- The following courses receive an extra weighted point towards GPA as well as courses that are considered AP level:
- Honors U.S. History
- Honors American Lit. Comp.
- Honors Contemporary Comp.
- Honors Math Analysis
- Multi variable Calculus
- Honors Chemistry
- Honors Physics
- Honors Physiology

Test Scores
Due to COVID-19, CSU suspends Standardized Testing Requirement for upcoming admissions cycle. The Cal state schools are test blind and will not accept any test scores for admissions purposes.
Supplemental Factors
The California State University (CSU) no longer uses ACT or SAT examinations in determining admission eligibility for all CSU campuses.
What are the supplemental factors?
Campuses will use a combination of students' “a-g" GPA and supplemental factors to determine admission eligibility. To review campus specific information please select the campus link below:
CSU Eligibility Index
The Eligibility Index Table shows the combination of test scores and grade point averages required to meet minimum eligibility requirements. The CSU does not use the SAT Writing section or the ACT writing score to calculate the CSU Eligibility Index.
Please note that some CSU schools such as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, San Diego State and others may require more competitive scores to be admitted.
Impacted Programs & Impacted Majors
Some campuses and majors are designed impacted because the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available.
CSUN Impacted Major
The list of impacted majors below may change in future academic years.
- Accountancy
- Biology
- Business administration
- Cinema & Television Arts
- Communications
- Health Administration
- Music
- Kinesiology
- Psychology
Applicants to the following impacted major are required to pass an audition:

EOP
Equal Opportunity Program (EOP):
The EOP program is designed to improve access and retention of historically low-income and educationally disadvantaged students. EOP students have the potential and demonstrated motivation to perform, but they have not been able to realize their potential.
There is a separate application that must be filled out for each campus a student applies through EOP. Students are also required to submit 2 letters of recommendations for the EOP Programs. The letters of recommendations should come from teachers the students know well.
The EOP Applications deadlines are different from campus to campus. Therefore students must look to see when the applications are due.

FAQs
Do I need a letter of recommendation to apply to the CSUs?
No, you do not need letters of recommendations. Having a transcript in front of you will be helpful.
I think I calculated the CSU GPA incorrectly. What do I do?
This happens more frequently than you think. So, each school will recalculate your GPA to make sure it’s correct.
What if I took classes through OFL? How do I input those classes on my application?
The only classes you should be inputting on your UC and Cal state applications are A-G classes only. Be sure to type out the entire name, Opportunities For Learning. It does not matter which location you took the classes at. Usually your options are Baldwin Hills or Irwindale.

FAQs
How do I know I need a recommendation?
You do not need a recommendation for the UC and CSU schools. If you are applying through Common Application, you will need a counselor’s recommendation along with 2 to 3 teacher recommendations. It is important to double check every institution to find out if recommendation letters are required and exact number required.
Do I have to fill out a recommendation packet?
If you need any recommendation for college, you will need to fill out a recommendation packet for the college counselors. The packet is used to get to know you more.
What is included in the school report?
The school report includes your high school GPA (ECR GPA), class rank, a transcript, a rating system and a letter of recommendation from the counselor.
Can a school report be submitted without a recommendation?
Yes, technically it can be submitted without a recommendation. But it is to your advantage to have a recommendation included in the school report.
Which college counselors will write my recommendation?
Mr. Graham for students last names A-G, Mrs. Yi for students last name H-P, Mrs. Murcia for students last names Q-Z.
Can I ask my regular counselor to submit a recommendation?
Yes, you can but you must ask them before. Letters of recommendations are typically written by college counselors at ECR.
Can someone else (outside private college counselor) complete the school report?
No, they cannot do the recommendation/school report. It must be someone from El Camino. This is the reason why it is important for you to get to know the college counselors so that when they have to write your recommendation, they know you thoroughly to write you a good and relevant recommendation.
Do I need a teachers’ recommendation?
You may need at least two additional teacher’s recommendations. So, ask your teachers early. Check the college website to see how many you need. Schools prefer 11th grade teachers.
Do I need to do an interview with the college counselor?
You don’t have to have an interview, but it is to your advantage to schedule one with the college counselors so that they can get to know you better. If a packet is turned after the last due date, you may not receive an interview time. But the school report and the recommendation will still be written for you using the information from the recommendation packet.
Does the packet need to be complete to schedule an interview?
Yes, it must be completed and everything must be there to schedule an interview. Please use the checklist in the packet to ensure that the packet is complete. Remember to get the proofs. They need to be included in the packet.
The deadline to submit a recommendation packet has past, but I changed my mind and now want to apply to private schools. What do I do?
Please talk to the college counselors. A school report may or may not submitted on time. It depends and the circumstances. But please remember that they are not available during the winter break to write recommendations. Even if the college counselor can do the recommendation last minute, you will have to arrange teachers’ recommendations to be submitted on time.
The colleges I applied to is asking me to send a mid-year report? How do I do that?
The mid year report is basically your 7th semester transcript (senior year grades). If the college counselors did your school report through Naviance or SENDedu, they will be automatically uploaded sometime at the end of January. So, you do not need to send a transcript. If no recommendations were needed by them and you still need a mid-year report, see your college counselor and they can help you sort it out.

Safe, Target, Reach Schools
Don’t include a school on your college list that you are not willing to attend. Include schools that fall into one of the following three categories: Safe, Target and Reach. Apply to a few schools from each category.
Safe: A college where you would have been easily accepted the previous year. You can be reasonably certain that you will be admitted to your safety schools and be happy there.
- You meet all the requirements for the recommended coursework
- Your GPA is significantly above the averaged accepted last year
Target: A college where your academic qualifications fall well within or even exceed the school’s range for the average freshman. These schools are places you will be very happy and most likely to be admitted. There are no guarantees, but it’s not unreasonable to be accepted to several of your target schools.
- You meet all the requirements for the recommended coursework
- You GPA is above the average accepted last year
Reach: You have all the qualifications and academic credentials fall within range or below the school’s range for the average freshman. These schools are your top choices, but more academically challenging to get into. Reach schools are long-shots but they should still be possible.
- You GPA is at about or above the average accepted last year
- You have taken the average or above number of honors/AP courses

UC Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)
Did you know that more than 13,000 transfer students applied for a Transfer Admission Guarantee last year? This program guarantees admission to a campus and major for students who meet the TAG criteria. With the guarantee in hand at one campus, many students apply to other campuses without risk, as the TAG does not bind a student to attend the TAG campus if admitted to another UC campus.
Six UC campuses offer an admission guarantee for junior transfer applicants. These include UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz.
By participating in the program, students can ensure their admission to a specific UC campus and major. About 83 percent of students admitted through a TAG choose to enroll in a UC campus — including at the three non-TAG campuses. As TAG students come to UC well prepared academically, the majority (65 percent entering Fall 2019) graduate within two years of enrolling at UC.
To support your TAG advising efforts, please utilize the UC TAG Matrix as needed.
Students can submit their TAG via the UC Transfer Admission Planner (UC TAP). The TAG filing period for fall is September 1–30. Students can submit a TAG to only one UC campus.
TAG is also the cornerstone of the Pathways+ transfer option, as well as the UC Transfer Pathways Associate Degrees in Chemistry and Physics.6 UC campuses offer guarantee admissions to students from community colleges. Interested students must meet campus-specific requirements to qualify for a UC TAG. By participating in a TAG program, students can ensure their admission to a specific UC campus.
- The UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) with UCLA gives community college students extra consideration to their College of Letters and Science.
ASSIST is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferring to another.

cal grant gpa opt out form - 11th grade only (c/o 2026)
Assembly Bill 2160 was signed into law in September 2014 mandating that all public schools electronically submit grade point averages (GPAs) for all graduating seniors to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by October 1 for Cal Grant consideration, unless the student or parent has opted out.
Cal Grant awards range from $5,000 to 12,000 and are for students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree or vocational or career training. Cal Grants do not have to be repaid. California Education Code section 69432.9 requires the school district to notify all grade 11 students and their parent/guardian (if under the age of 18), in writing and no later than January 1 of a student’s grade 11 academic year, that the student will be deemed a Cal Grant applicant unless the student has opted out prior to March 1 of their 11th grade year. Students who do not opt out will have their GPA submitted to the Commission to be considered for a Cal Grant award. If you choose not to have your student’s GPA sent to the California Student Aid Commission, your student will not be considered for a Cal grant. Please return your opt-out form to the guidance office no later than March 1 of the student's 11th grade year. Please see your school counselor if you have any questions.

FAQs
What is an FSA ID?
An FSA ID is a username and password that is required to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites. Your FSA ID identifies you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on ED websites such as the FAFSA or the Dream Act
Why do you recommend doing this now?
Processing a new FSA ID can take up to 5 business days. By getting those IDs now, it means your students and their families will be ready to complete and submit the FAFSA once it's available and not have to wait for their FSA IDs to process.
Who needs an FSA ID?
Beginning with the 2024–25 FAFSA®, all contributors (student, student's spouse, and/or parent) must have their own FSA ID.
How does someone get an FSA ID?
To create an FSA ID, please go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
What if the student or contributor doesn’t remember their FSA ID or is not sure if they have one?
To retrieve a forgotten FSA ID or password, please go to studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing and click either the "Forgot my Username" or "Forgot my Password" links.
What if the parent of a student doesn't have a Social Security Number (SSN)?
Those contributors without an SSN, but whose student is eligible to apply for federal student aid, will need an FSA ID. However, they cannot yet create an FSA ID without an SSN. We expect this access to be available around the same time the FAFSA® is released.
