Counseling Office Hours
A counseling office is open Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clerical staff can with assist with general counseling information and to facilitate contact with counselors or the Administrative Director of Secondary Counseling Services. - El Camino currently has ten academic counselors and three college counselors

Ms. Bero earned her Bachelor of Science from SUNY Geneseo, located in western New York, and majored in elementary education, special education, and psychology. After obtaining her teaching credentials in Childhood Education and Students with Disabilities, she worked in a K-12 district in New York but ultimately decided to pursue counseling. She earned her Educational Specialist and Master of Education from the University of Florida, specializing in school counseling and mental health counseling. Ms. Bero holds a Pupil Personnel Services credential and an Administrative Services credential and has been working at El Camino Real Charter High School since 2011.
Ms. Bero spends most of her time with her husband and two sons. She enjoys being active, watching football (especially the Florida Gators and the Buffalo Bills), and traveling.

Ms. Paniagua earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in political science from UCLA in 2005. After spending time working with K-12 students in different capacities, in 2014, she earned a Master of Arts degree in counseling with a PPS credential in School Counseling from Loyola Marymount University. Ms. Paniagua has been a high school counselor since 2014 and a proud member of El Camino Real Charter High School since 2015.

Mr. Lee earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from BIOLA University. After obtaining his Master of Science degree in Counseling, with emphasis in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, combined with PPS and CWA credential from CSULA, he was hired by John Burroughs Middle School where he did his internship. He was also a counselor at Palisades Charter High School before he went to Texas to pursue his PhD in Educational Research. Although he has been putting off his dissertation for over 10 years, he claims that he will return to it one day.
Mr. Lee also holds a certificate in College Counseling and Student Services and was a National Board Certified Counselor and National Board Certified School Counselor. He also has taught undergraduate and graduate level college classes at University of North Texas, CSULA, CSUN, and Southern California Seminary.
Mr. Lee spends most of his time with his wife and two sons, often exploring caves and caverns around the country. He is a coffee aficionado and enjoys playing and watching all types of sports.

Mr. Contreras earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with an emphasis in Film and Television Production with a minor in Spanish from California Lutheran University in 2015. He went on to earn a Master of Science in Counseling and PPS with a Child Welfare and Attendance specialization in 2018. For two years he worked as a counselor at Daisy Gibson Elementary school in Littlerock, California. Mr. Contreras enjoys working with high school students.
Mr. Contreras enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his wife. He enjoys playing sports and attending sporting events. He is a die-hard USC football fan. Fight on!

Mr. Perry earned his Bachelor of Science in psychology from California Lutheran University in 2005, and went on to earn his Master of Science in counseling and guidance in 2008. Mr. Perry holds his PPS credential and has since earned his Master in Educational Leadership from Cal State, Northridge. He has been an academic counselor at El Camino Real Charter High School since 2011.

Mrs. Shano earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from San Diego State University. She also earned her Master of Arts in Educational Counseling and Educational Administration. She has a PPS credential and an Administrative Services credential. She has been a counselor at El Camino Real Charter High School since 2011 and is a proud ECR alum. ECR is her home! Her family is everything to her and they enjoy playing sports, traveling together and being outdoors.

Mrs. Hopkins is an El Camino alum! While at El Camino she was a part of the varsity cheer team and was a competitive gymnast for over 10 years. Mrs. Hopkins earned her Bachelor's degree in Child Development from CSUN in 2014. Shortly after, she completed her double masters degree in Psychology from Phillips Graduate University. She majored in Marriage Family Therapy and school counseling, earning a PPS credential. Mrs. Hopkins loves to travel, cook, stay active, and loves the beach. Fun facts - Mrs. Hopkins is 5 feet short and she’s allergic to a lot of random things including pistachios and cashews.

Mr. Coleman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business from CSUN, where he then went on to earn his Multiple Subject Teaching credential. Prior to coming to ECR, he was a teacher for the Las Virgenes Unified School District for ten years. He earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance with a PPS credential from California Lutheran University. Mr. Coleman was the boys’ varsity volleyball coach for nine years.

Mr. Graham, along with his three brothers, is an El Camino alum. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Humboldt State University, where he majored in psychology and played intercollegiate football as a defensive back. Shortly after, he received his Master of Arts in school counseling with a PPS credential from Phillips Graduate Institute, and another Master of Arts in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies with a Tier 1 Administrative Credential from CSUN.
Mr. Graham was a counselor at Paul Revere Charter Middle School for 6 years. He received the Founder’s Day Award in 2012-13 for Excellence in Education. He coached JV/Varsity football at Palisades Charter High School for 3 years and was the varsity defensive backs/running backs coach for 5 seasons at ECR.
Mr. Graham’s favorite professional athletic teams are the LA Dodgers and football in general. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, and his friends. His advice towards academic success is: “Study hard; study smart; and most importantly – study with comprehension.”

Sylvia Yi has a BA in History from UC Berkeley. She started her career as a teacher and worked as a guidance counselor as well; but she currently enjoys working as a college counselor and helping students with college and career goals.

Services
Individual School counseling is a responsive service in which we seek to meet the students' immediate needs and concerns. It is offered throughout the school year in a confidential setting. We do offer drop-in services for a one time check-in, but for regular therapy, parental consent is required. We also have a peer counseling program; click on the tab to learn more.
Wellness groups are offered during lunch and after school. Click on the "Wellness Groups" Tab to see the current offerings. If you are interested in joining a group, check in with your counselor or a school-based thetapist...or drop in to an open group at lunch.
Wellness Center staff will provide workshops related to mental health, wellness, and healthy living throughout the school year. Workshops will be available to students, parents, and staff.
Mental Health and Wellness resources will be available for visitors to the Wellness Center. This includes brochures, group information, and various wellness tips. We also send out a monthly newsletter called El Camino Real Talk, featuring various mental health and wellness topics. We also provide resources and promote an overall postive school culture through a varierty of wellness campaigans throughout the year.

Report Card Dates
Although grades are updated frequently in Aeries, progress marks are populated in "Grades" in the Student/Parent Portal every five weeks. Final (20 week) marks are finalized and are added to the students' transcripts.
Remember that class grades can be accessed at any time through Aeries.
If you do not have an Aeries account, please contact sis@ecrchs.net with the subject line: NEED ACCESS. Make sure to include your student’s name and birth date in the email.
