My name is Haley Smith and my educational background is in History/Social Science and I received my Bachelor of Arts from California State University Northridge (CSUN). I returned to CSUN to earn my teaching credential in 2015. I have been teaching in the Independent Studies program at El Camino Real Charter High School since 2015 and I have a passion for history as well as women and gender studies. I have previously coached high school girls volleyball and softball, and I currently play on a co-ed recreational softball team.

Gail Nettels: ISP Coordinator, English Teacher and Writing Expert
I have been teaching English in the United States and abroad for over thirty-four years. I am the recipient of the Walk of Hearts Award, the Rotary Club Excellence in Teaching Award, the CSUN Teacher of the Year Award, and have earned an advanced credential from the National Board of Certified Teachers. I enjoy, and have had experience, working with all types of learners-from gifted to reluctant, from English as a Second Language to native speaker of English. I offer a student-centered approach to all lessons and find that working in small groups and holding one on one writing conferences are the most effective ways to teach writing and reading comprehension. Creative writing classes, spoken word performances, Socratic Seminars, and literary analysis through critical thought are areas that will be explored in all English classes at the College and Career Independent Studies Program at El Camino's North Campus. I look forward to meeting and working with you in the near future.
